Backyard Developments

We had a quiet day on June 27, Rachel's real birthday. She and I made a rainbow cake using food colouring and we iced it with 7-minute frosting. Note to Sarah and Mom: I have a way better, way easier recipe than that old one on pg. 41 of that ancient cookbook. All you need for this is egg whites, sugar and water. The other one called for corn syrup, cream of tartar and a bunch of other weird ingredients. Then Rachel and I went to the pool for the afternoon. In all, a nice day. Quite muggy and hot, which is hard to bear in our house, as very few homes up here have a/c. The pool was a nice way to cool down, but it costs $8 a visit, so we'll have to get some kind of family pass for the summer.

In other news, the greenspace behind our house is being developed. While still not "green", there are a few changes. They have brought in a  number of trees that are being planted,  and they are grading the land so that our house will not really be on a hill anymore, subject to constant erosion.

In this photo you can see that our house is kind of higher up than the space beside us. This was taken a few weeks ago.

Photo from today. It's doesn't look that different, but there is a lot more dirt that they have dumped and spread around.

View from the road. They added those big rocks, which I think will be fun to climb on when all is said and done. I will have to take some from behind the house, because you can't really see what they have done from here. But it's looking better every day.

  1. Very happy belated birthday Rachel! I feel like a bad pseudo-auntie for not telling her sooner.

    Incidentally I blogged a bit.

    Your party sounded fun.

I am also very interested in that easier 7 minute frosting recipe...
