Happy Birthday and What's New

Big hugs and kisses to my Dad today!
Love you lots!

Whew, a little breathing space. I have been madly struggling to finish two presentations, papers, final appraisals, preparation for 3rd term clinical placement, studying for exams. It's been a very busy term compared to Fall, but it's nearly done! My 3rd term ends mid-June, then I'll have a "break" for two months. I quote "break" because I have to find a summer job. Then back to school for my final Fall term, in 4th year. Amazing how fast it has gone by. But if the textbooks and binders full of notes are any indication of the amount of material that I have had to ingest, then my brain must be overflowing now.

Here is what we've been up to, amidst the chaos:

Easter morning: presents and an egg hunt! Rachel later told us it was "her best Easter ever."

A Skype call with uncles and aunties (and grandparents and extended family) later in the day was a great way to connect with family. I find I miss everyone so much more on holidays. :-(

Rachel wore her Christmas dress from Granma to school. She has been dressing more and more fancy these days. One morning she wanted to wear a party dress (with crinoline and everything). We argued about it, then let her go. When I arrived at school, I saw that ALL the other girls were in full party regalia. It seemed as though they had planned it the day before, but of course Rachel hadn't told me any of this.

From "Chirp" magazine, we followed the instructions to build a car. She tested it out, and drives it to the "dentist" every night, parking it outside the bathroom door while the "dentist" (me) brushes her teeth. Then she drives it back to her room for stories.

Yes, she is bare-bottomed. In fact, it's hard to take photos of her around the house most days, because there is a derth of clothing on her. (there, I used the word correctly that time, Sare)

I remembered that I used to play "turtle" when I was little. I would get a pillow and my mom would tie it on my back with one of my dad's belts. So here we are, one generation later.

  1. Dear Binessa Lee Binderwater,

Thanks for posting that Skype picture of us. It's hilarious.

I wish I were there to hear Rachel's inner/outer monologues...

  3. I forgot to mention: turtles! I vividly remember being a turtle, with those bumpy green couch pillows.

  4. I remember the turtle phase very well!! And those bumpy green pillows. I wove that material, and made curtains out of the same...where did that energy come from?

Just love that box car. That's something I would have LOVED to have had...(grammatical structure?) when I was a child. Speaking of grammatical structure, how on earth do you explain that to a Chinese student who does not have verb tenses in his language...excuse me while I digress...

Just love your postings, and wish you well in your preparation for Inuvik.

    Love,
    Mom
